It is always a delight when community work is recognised and supported. RollBack Skating and its roller sport programme World on Wheels (WoW) got a boost with a donation from Bedfordshire police of 15 bikes to support their work with young people to provide them with vital functional skills through the bike maintenance element of the project.
|
The bikes will be used to teach young people about the practical aspects of
repairing, mending and adjusting bikes, but with youth workers to support the project is also designed to help young people develop their social skills. and using their initiative. The bikes are the result of extensive searches for their owners through the normal channels as well as publicly online. |
In addition, the project will also be used as part of Duke of Edinburgh and Arts Awards activities as well as for young people who are on an extended curriculum or that require mentoring and coaching.
The full statement by Bedforshire police is here.
The bikes will be a great asset to the overall programme as there will all different makes and models from BMX's to Mountain bikes, boys, girls and adult bikes too.
